Jesus Enters Jerusalem

Matthew 21:1-5

As Jesus and the disciples approached Jerusalem, they came to the town of Bethlehem on the Mount of Olives. Jesus sent two of them on ahead. “Go into the village over there,” he said. “As soon as you enter it, you will see a donkey tied there, with its colt beside it. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone asks what you are doing, just say, ‘The Lord needs them,’ and he will immediately let you take them.” This took place to fulfill the prophecy that said, “Tell the people of Jerusalem, ‘Look, your King is coming to you. He is humble, riding on a donkey— riding on a donkey’s colt.” Matthew 21:1 NLT

So we see a fulfillment of prophecy in the way that Jesus entered into Jerusalem. He entered riding on a donkey. Definitely not how any earthly king would have entered. Think about this, what if years ago someone had written about a trip you had not taken yet and it happened just the way it was written. I know, there is no way, right? But for Jesus and His life and His purpose it was prophesied about in so many ways. This entrance into Jerusalem was just one of them. Then we see how humble Jesus is, no pomp and circumstance for him. Could this be said of us? How important is it to us that we be noticed? We all want to feel significant, but where and how much of our significance do we get from others vs. from God?

Reflection

So, what does this mean to you? What does it mean to be humble? What does this look like in your life? Write down what God is saying to you today?

What does your prayer need to be today? Maybe you want to acknowledge how awesome Jesus really is. How amazing to know so many things like fulfilled prophesy point to his authenticity. Jesus is real!! Should there be any doubt? Maybe you need to pray a prayer of forgiveness for times of pride, where we demonstrate a little too much of self. Write down a simple prayer.
